How It Works

Starting therapy is simpler than you think

We've made the process as straightforward and welcoming as possible. Here's exactly what to expect, from first message to first session.

The Process

From reaching out to your first session

1

Get in touch

Send a message through our contact form, or book a free 20-minute consultation call. No pressure, no obligation — just a conversation about what's bringing you here.

2

A short, informal chat

We'll talk through what you're looking for, answer any questions, and help you understand what therapy with us might look like. There's no commitment at this stage.

3

Find your fit

Based on what you've shared, we'll match you with the right therapist and approach — whether that's CBT, trauma-informed therapy, ACT, or a neuro-affirming approach.

4

Begin your journey

Book your first session at a time that suits you — in person or online. From there, we walk alongside you, at your pace, reviewing progress together as you go.

What To Expect

Your first session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know you and understand what brings you to therapy. There's no pressure — we'll talk about what you're hoping to work on, answer any questions, and begin exploring what approach might suit you best.

It's also a chance for you to see if you feel comfortable with your therapist. If it doesn't feel like the right fit, that's okay — we'll help you find someone who is.

  • Sessions typically last 50 minutes
  • Available in-person or via secure video call
  • No paperwork needed in advance
  • Completely confidential from the very first conversation

Frequently asked questions

What happens in the first session?

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know you and understand what brings you to therapy. There's no pressure — we'll talk about what you're hoping to work on and begin exploring the right approach together.

How long does therapy take?

This varies from person to person. Some find a focused course of 8–16 sessions enough; others benefit from longer-term support. We'll review progress together regularly and ensure you always feel in control of your journey.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is fundamental to therapy. Everything you share is kept strictly private, with rare exceptions such as serious risk of harm — which your therapist will always discuss with you at the outset.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes — we offer fully secure, encrypted video sessions for all our services. Online therapy is just as effective as in-person for many people, offering flexibility to access support from wherever feels comfortable.

How do I know which therapy is right for me?

That's exactly what our free initial consultation is for. We'll listen to what you're going through and suggest the approach or therapist that we think would be the best fit — no prior knowledge of therapy needed.

If you need urgent support

Becoming You is not a crisis service, and we're unable to offer emergency support outside of scheduled sessions. If you're in crisis or need immediate help, please reach out to one of the services below.
